The Alexander White Scholarship Fund, named after Alexander White III, was established in 1987. It was originally developed to provide internship experiences to students who had demonstrated a commitment to community service.

Over a span of 20 years, Alex White, founder and former Director of the Extramural Programs and Opportunities (EXPO) Center, guided UCLA's internship program to its top-ranked status in the nation. The Fund was developed in keeping with White's belief that UCLA students must play leadership roles in helping their communities acheive the full benefits of diverse citizenry.

To date, the Internship Alumni Network has raised over $90,000 for the Alex White Scholarship Fund and granted scholarships to UCLA students for their internships in Washington D.C., Sacramento and Los Angeles. Last year, our scholarship recipients interned at the Los Angeles Mayor’s Office of Intergovernmental Relations, the Office of Congressman Adam Schiff, the Office of Senator Barbara Boxer, the Office of Congressman Henry Waxman, National Public Radio and Public/Private Action Group (see Alex White Recipients).

Since most internships are unpaid and the cost associated with doing an internship may dissuade some students from participating, the Alex White Scholarship is a tremendous aid to help defray costs. The costs associated with doing an internship include room and board, transportation, and incidentals, i.e., souvenirs, cultural events, etc.

With your help, we can continue to provide students the opportunity to gain valuable intern experience. Just look at our Alumni page to see where former students who went through our internship programs are today.
